I really can't see the point, but good luck to him.

Nor can I. It'll end up with the same people taking the piss, chewing the cud talking nonsense - just like here.

Shaun's nobility is an example to us all. I'm sorely tempted to post pics of my Dawes Discovery (sans mudguards) and ask for advice on using it as a timetrialler (should I get disc wheels?) but.............I will abstain.

I think fair play to bonj. Many on here said to him that if he did not like the way CC was being run why didn't he set up his own site and this is exactly what he has done.

Exactly.

It could be a very useful resource and doesn't need to be filled with a load of snickering and rubbish about biscuits
Whereas a thread with a load of leering middle aged blokes drooling over half naked women is the epitome of quality. :hyper:

It will be interesting to see how it turns out. Forums are shaped by their users, not the owners, whatever the intent behind them.

Whilst I agree in part, the owners through moderation definitely play a part - look at what happened at ACF, and compare it to the careful and considerate mod'ing that occurs here. I think Shaun does an excellent job of keeping this forum under control whilst allowing freedom. A difficult path to tread I expect.

That's kind of my point. I don't think Shaun had a rigid agenda whith this place and the light touch modding has always reflected that. Whereas on ACF the owner had a very clear idea of what he wanted, regardless of the users. The tension between the two eventually led to the collapse of the forum. I think Bonj has a similarly clear vision, it will be interesting to see if that survives contact with actual people.

He's certainly going to have to become a lot more tolerant and understanding if it's going to work. And is he going to refrain from crazed rants, or will that be part of the package? I almost wish I had the time to find out...

Well done to him for putting his money where his mouth is but I must admit that when I followed the link in the OP and saw that Michael Caine line came to mine: "You were only supposed to blow the bloody doors off!"

I wonder if the responsibility of running it will cause him to modify his views on that sort of thing? Good luck to him, anyway.

I almost wish I could be bothered!

No, good luck to him, but I think it's going to be harder than he thinks.
