Here's a question for you all, I work as a chinese takeaway driver two nights a week, i start on £20 (5pm -11.30 or 12.30am) and that covers my fuel, all delivery charges are mine which ranges from £1.30 - £5.00 (£5.00 being a good 15 minute drive each way) would you tip the driver and if so how much, or would it all depend on how much you were spending? If it wasn't for the tips i dont think the job would be worth doing as that pound tip here and there really adds up

I've always found it interesting how it works for smaller outfits. In larger outfits you can in theory get fired fairly easily for keeping any tips or gifts whatsoever (talking about delivery here).

I would think so. If I had some spare cash on me.
After all delivery is free.

How is your delivery free?

If/when we have a local tradesman in to do a job and they do it well, we usually 'round up plus'.

Some have said it's not necessary but we insist, on the basis that we want them around the next time - and tell them so . We all have a laugh and part amicably.

For both the chinese places i work they are not interested in tips or how much you get aslong as they get their money for the food

Fair weathered, fair minded but easily persuaded.
I like to tip if the service/job has been good, i think good work should be rewarded but i don't like it if the tips go in one big pot for all the staff. I get the fairness issue however i may have had no dealings with particular members of staff or one of them may have only been mediocre but they still benefit from my tip. Therefore i tend to ask what happens to the tips and tend to tip higher if the persons doing the job gets the tip.

Bloody food vans and pizza mopeds, polluting the atmosphere, costing the country millions and you still want to give 'em more money. Tip? My derriere a tip. ^_^

(Nothing personal, just that a pizza moped man decided he was going to drive at pace into my leg on Monday night. Really apologetic though - in whatever language he was speaking. I nearly tipped him.)

I'm sure. I am merely saying that for example delivery is becoming more common in other aspects of life as on-line buying accounts for a bigger proportion of shopping now.

The issue will continue to grow as now the 'latest innovation' is same day delivery, same morning delivery almost as if you were casually ordering a takeaway. I hardly need to mention the monitoring issue either.

I think with larger firms they would refer to the Bribery act, I think ours does, I always say no to any freebies, it saves any hassle.

Direct from the restaurant/takeaway.
It's usual in London/SE.

If that happened to me i wouldnt make any money  if its close the delivery is only £1.30 (1-2 mile radius) so its not like its a lot of money anyway

Yeah but buying clothes etc for some reason is treated differently to ordering food

agreed,
@Col5632 there are so many takeaway shops that delivery is free within a radius of say 3 miles.
There are so many outlets that there is no need to order from anyone further away than that.
Maybe it works differently in Scotland where the population is more spreadout and the number of outlets is limited.
