That dealership excuse sounds like complete nonsense to squeeze an early service out of you, especially when even their own sales guys disagreed. I've had similar dealership runarounds with service schedules before where they try to tie it to manufacture or PDI dates rather than actual hand-over, but BMW UK really ought to set that straight. Definitely hold your ground on this one and let us know what corporate says!

In my case, certainly no more than 5000 miles per year.
In fact, l've just looked and l'm currently on 6700 miles since March 2025

Aye, the variable plan is for high mileage users who might be hitting the intervals quickly, or for fleet users who are more interested in saving money than cherishing they vehicles.

Looking on the iDrive setting on my car, it's showing that the PDI/service was done 13th March 2025 with just 9 miles being covered. This was done by dealer code 45193 which I have since found out that this is GBA Killingholme Import Port which is BMWs official UK vehicle distribution and port processing centre.

It was then registered on the 18th March 2025 and has a Youkshire (Leeds) registration number

The current issue has been caused because the technician at GBA Killingholme either forgot to reset the service clock during the PDI process or entered the wrong interval date into BMW central database.

From what I can gather, this means that the car is still showing as being in "transit mode" which means the service interval will be based on the production date, as opposed to the date of registration

When the technician completed the PDI he or she failed to transmit that data to BMW’s central system, it means that the vehicle is functionally ready, but its digital birth certificate (In Service Date) is not correct in the BMW data base.

If it's come into the UK at South Killingholme, they won't be technicians that PDi them, the one's I saw doing Merc's were mainly kid's on minimum wage, the Leeds reg will be because they then go to Thorne near Doncaster, just off the M18, the dealer is spouting utter tosh, it should be a service from the date of registration

So despite BMW UK confirming that the service intervals commence from the date of the first registration and NOT when the car was built, which the dealer initially said, the dealer is still refusing to reset the service required date on the car? 🤬

The dealer is now saying that the telemetry on the car is saying that the car needs a service?

My car is currently on 7006 miles as of today, so well under the 11,000 miles that BMW say you should have a service. Its either two years or 11,000 miles whichever is the sooner, I totally understand that.

Now here is the next interesting point, when I looked on the MyBMW app this afternoon, according to that my car has done 11,275 miles and of course based on BMW service recommendations, its saying that its needs a service.

So which is right, the dashboard saying 7006 miles or the MyBMW saying 11,275 miles. Is that where the confusion is arising I wonder? All points that I am currently in discussion with BMW UK

But I can certainly no longer trust the dealer, they initially said the the first service was based on when the car was built NOT when it was registered. BMW UK have now confirmed that what was said was utter bollocks.

However, that same dealer is now saying that the telemetry on the car is saying that it needs a service. But I suspect that it based on the 11,275 miles that the MyBMW app is saying it is?

Could you not go to a different dealer?

Also, is it just worth checking that you are looking at the total odomoeter on the dashboard and not one of the trip mileage counters?
