I do my own (oo-oer matron!) but have no issue with folk taking their bikes to the shop.

I do have issues with people coming out with guff like "saving time" to justify taking it to the shop. Unless you live in the flat above the shop you won't save a second, and even then its marginal by the time you've lugged the thing down the stairs.

If you don't know how, or you do know how but can't be arrissed, or you fancy the bloke/chick in the shop, or whatever, then just say so. Inventing rubbish to justify it just makes you look like a plum.

Drago, I do basic repairs, but as I work full time and starting a my own business.
Plus spending time with family and friends,
I don't have a lot of time and not a case of not being not being arsed thank you!!!

Someone posted on CC recently about starting commuting. The list of items to buy included a helmet for £11.99. I was horrified someone could feel an item which at best cost £4 to produce is worth putting on one's head. It's knowledge and experience which is sadly lacking in some people.

I would be willing to bet that people are paying well over £100 for helmets that only cost £4 to produce. It's amazing what a fashionable brand name can do to the price.

You may well be right. I've no idea which brands are fashionable. I buy a comfortable one from my LBS in the expectation the owner is offering what he considers to be the best and safest helmets available.

I should add I've been a customer there for 20+ years.
