Guys.

I think you've made your point.

Some of us don't like that @Cunobelin was not impressed with the production. It seems his dislike was upheld by trading standards...that's the end of it.

There seem to be pages and pages of posters asking the same question and being ultimately dissatisfied with the same answer...and then expressing this in critisim and attempts at ridicule, this is verging on bullying. Can we leave it there and get back to the topic
I could have simply "Liked" your post, but felt it needed to be quoted in full.....again!

I think you need to address your complaint to Southwark Trading Standards.

Except that, as I recall, the original topic was pretty much "what do we expect when we go to see a Shakespeare", which seems to be pretty much exactly what we've been debating...
Actually the original topic was, will I be converted. It has little to do with production values or interpretations by local trading standards offices.

So, was the OP converted, it seems that only @Katherine has actually asked.

Very good @Katherine .
I don't often go to a thatched, open air theatre so that was a pleasant experience.

The performance was set in the1880-1900 era going by the costume. The cast were all Irish, so I wasn't expecting that.

The story was easy enough to follow, with enough toilet humour to satisfy me!

Mrs Dave has seen different productions of it and she says it was more aggressive than the other ones she's seen.

I enjoyed it, Mrs Dave thought it was fabulous. This is what I'd hoped for when I had the idea to get the tickets.

I also knew where Palestine is....
So, are you converted?

Cyclechat is amazing that way, you have not only learnt about Literature but geography as well...not bad for a forum about cycling!

How did I learn about geography?
Well, you know where both Palestinians and philistines come from now.

I tend to agree with @Cunobelin - if I went to, say, a musical evening of Mozart, and the advertising showed a "standard" orchestra with violins..etc.. and when I turned up, they were playing the "Jupiter" symphony on harmonicas and banjos, I would be a little put out, and want my money back - I see no difference with Shakespeare - what is advertised is what you should expect.

yebbut, what if they turned up dressed in trendy black open necked shirts, rather than the white tie and tales in the poster taken at their previous gig. Would you be demanding your money back after 5 minutes ?

For the record, I like white tied orchestras at concerts as it adds to the occasion, but the music, or play, is the thing, no ?

Cunobelin does rather sound like he went in determined to make a scene, and all this so called misrepresentation, and so-say "lies", is just a smokescreen of faux umbrage
