There should be British food shops in NZ serving the ex-pat community, there are certainly plenty in Oz importing the essential things like Monster Munch and Smash.

That is true but relates mainly, as I recall, to dairy or meat products. Sealed packets and particularly confectionery are no problem in practice. I send nougat to my mother in NZ and whilst the parcels have been opened, and therefore delayed, they have always been well received.
