A woman has just been on a local radio phone in saying that she's written a page a day for the last 59 years. I've kept an "exercise diary" since 1988. Anything involving any form of sport or exertion i've recorded including all my bike rides.. Have any of you kept a diary for a long period of time?

I used to, until about mid 2003, when I found out that my (now) ex husband, had 'borrowed' them and taken them to the pub and laughed about them with his mates.

As a teenager and young adult I kept a diary on and off.... It's hilarious to read bits from my past self, and how the world revolved around me! Now I would love to go back and give that teenager some advice, but I'm pretty happy with where I am now so maybe I wouldn't!

Isn't it called Facebook and Twitter these days?
Funny you say that but I was just thinking about Facebooks "you have memories from today" feature. However I never post how mean someone was being to me on face book which I did in my diary (parents and siblings being the main culprits), and now my past memories I likely to be weather, my children, vegetables or cycling related! So this time last year we'd already picked our first courgette, but this year we have only just started to get flowers.

What a prize scumbag! A diary is the most personal thing.

I kept a diary for a few years as a child; now I just keep a record of all my rides in the hope of seeing any improvement but I've realised that even when you feel good on the bike you don't really go any faster!

Although I've never found it, my wife must have kept a diary for the 20 years we've been together, because every time we have a row she has perfect recall of all my failings over that period!

That's a bit of a self-gratification artist's trick.

Did you take your time to plan the revenge properly?

I like writing. I disappear for a bit, lose sense of where or when I am. I keep 3 dairies; one for day-to-day stuff, one's a cycling journal and the other's a random thoughts and musings log. They can morph into each other sometimes. I don't write every day, may go a couple of weeks without but I always come back. Writing is a safe place for me.

I have always loved writing but never kept a diary until the beginning of this year. I actually find it helpful in lots of ways and actually regret not doing it years ago. I used to feel that my life is boring and I never do anything worthwhile but keeping a diary has made me realise I do a lot of things really, probably more so than most people.

It also gives me an opportunity to say what I think of my boss without repercussions:okay:

I've done a number of short weekender at hostel type cycle tours this year and have also been writing detailed accounts of where I went and what I did and whom I spoke to (this has been inspired by Albert Winstanley. I'm pondering the idea of writing them into proper reports and seeing if any cycling magazine want to publish them, although I doubt it as cycle magazines seem to exist to sell people kit and they won't want me showing how to go touring on skip-rescue specials).
