Shimano and Campagnolo brake shoes wots the difference???

Whenever I go for new brake shoes at my lbs
he asks if it's shimano or Campy,
Well it's a tektro and he sells me some shimano which fit fine,
Just won a campy front brake on ebay,will shimano shoes fit???
are they different bolt sizes??
The shoes look much the same in pics

Shimano and Campagnolo make their gear to different specifications, so one will not fit the other.

Unless specifically stated, other parts manufacturers' equipment will be Shimano compatible, which is why you were sold Shimano pads for your Tektro brakes.

You'll want Campag pads for your new caliper and you will also need to check the groupset and year, as they vary.

I can confirm that - the brake blocks for the 1999 9-speed Athena brakes on my Basso and those on the 2004 10-speed Chorus on my Cannondale are not compatible with each other.

Still confused,a brake caliper arm is just an piece of ally with a slot in it,
how different can they be??
I've umpteen different brake blocks in my spares box,never found one
that didn't fit any of my brakes and i've used bmx,old weinmanns,tektros,
unbranded junk etc

It's an early Athena btw,I can see how some pads would'nt fit
some shoes,but replacing the whole shoe the only thing that could be different
is the size of the mounting bolt surely???

If you already have spare Shimano brake shoes/blocks, try fitting them and see how you get on!

If you don't, nip over to Disco Brakes and buy these special offer Campagnolo-compatible shoes and blocks.
