Hi
Does anyone know if a Shimano ST-2300 STi Levers 2 x 8 Speed work as a replacement for a Shimano Sora Flight Deck ST-3300 3 x 8 speed.

Having trouble finding an original replacement and was thinking of trying the above.

Thanks

The right hand Claris STI will do fine. I don't know whether the 2 x 8sp Claris left hand STI will push the distance: I suspect not: there is a specific ST-2303.
Note that a left hand 9sp STI eg Tiagra ST-4400 or ST-5500 or (105) ST-5510 will do. The cable pull is the same.
Googled this and a thread I started in late 2015 came up! Who'd have thought it? Illuminates rather than direct answer.

I assumed left, hence the question about changing from triple to double. Could be wrong though (and there’s a pair I linked on fleabay)

OP - I've offered you an answer to your question. But I think it would be worth considering swapping to 9 speed. Since you'll be changing the STIs, the extra would be a change of cassette and chain will do the business. The chainset and derailleurs will be fine on 9 speed, and the 9 speed cassette will fit too. Just worth a thought, and scratches any 'upgrade itch' you may have or develop.
If you haven't read what the late Sheldon Brown had to say about 'speeds' here's the link: I commend it to you (for the OP Q as well):

Thanks for the responses

There is a typo, it’s a 2x8 ST-3300 I have and I only need the right hand lever.

I’ve seen the one on eBay but I can get a new ST-2300 cheaper.

Afraid I won’t change the chain / cog setup as having just purchased a new bike with a 3x9 setup I prefer the 2x8.
I’ve been on Sheldon Brown excellent web site when looking for options to fix the lever, by the way the fault is a broken spring.

See Post #2 above. Pity you managed a typo critical to the question! Still it was great if nugatory fun answering the wrong question.
The RH STI will shift the 8sp rear mech. The LH STI would not shift a triple front mech (which we now discover you haven't got:rolleyes:).
