I've always found any Shimano brake, even Sora, to be perfectly good, and better than Tektro. But do fit salmon pads at the front. They transform the braking.

I've had to change the brakes on 3 new bikes over the past 2 years, in order to get satisfactory stopping power.
Which begs the question; how do manufacturers get away with selling a product with essential safety equipment that is below par? It can't be about cost ex factory.
On my touring bike, I changed the useless canti brakes for a cheap set of mini V brakes that transformed the braking 100%. It would have been cheaper for the factory to spec these in the first place.
I can't imagine a car manufacturer getting away with this sort of thing.
