Shimano RD-5701. Compatibility Question

My 9 speed 105 rear mech is flopping about on the bolt which screws to the drop out. I suspect the alloy of the barrel on the body is worn. Makes rear gear changes very imprecise and I even get chain jumps too. Not adjustment related.

In a moment some time ago I bought and salted away a spare rear mech for the day I'd need one. Today is that day. Now that I look at it I find it's labeled 10 speed on the box. No idea where I bought it from now so can't return it to exchange for a 9 speed mech. So will I be able to use the 10 speed RD-5701 in place of my knackered 9 speed rear mech on my 9 speed set up?

Yes you can use the 10 speed with 9 speed shifters.I use 10 speed 105 with 9 speed tiagra

No issues with cassette width differences? I read something not too helpful about the adjustable stop screws. Didn't make a lot of sense TBH.

No issues. It'll work and index correctly right down to 6 speed, though you'd probably not want to bother!

No issues. Stop screws will need to be set in the normal way when you set up (ie index) the RD. The 9 speed STI pulls the 10 speed RD so the latter meets the distance of movement to achieve a 9sp cassette sprocket pitch.
