I think the big new change to Sora for me is the switch-able cable-pull in the levers. This will allow v-brakes to be used with drop bars. I'm rather interested in that setup for my tourer

That is good to know, so are these the only Shimano STIs that will work with V brakes without a travel agent?

Ah just re-read the article on road.cc, it's the flat bar levers that will have the switch

Currently there are no v-brake compatible STIs, the only ways to set up a tourer with v-brakes are to use travel agents or get v-brake drop levers and downtube/bar end shifters

The Focus Mares comes with standard STI and mini Vs

Mini Vs use canti/caliper cable pull, but I'm not sure they're any better at braking than the cantis I already have. Also they will only fit tyres up to about 32mm, whereas I need to be able to fit my snow studs on the bike in winter and they are 38mm+studs so probably in the 40-42mm range.

Full V-brakes would be better.

That's a shame, I thought it was too good to be true! I am due to convert a friends bike to drop bar and want to avoid having to replace the V brakes but it looks like I will have to. I have heard the travel agents are a faff, as it's someone else's bike I want the solution to work and stay working without lots of regular fiddling...
