Shimano ST EF51 brake/shifters

A spring has broken inside the left hand (triple front) shifter on my sons hybrid bike. Not many ST EF51 shifters available on-line, the ones on eBay all look to be copies, none have the Shimano logo on the actual body. Thinking about upgrading, are the ST EF500 compatible and be a direct exchange, can get them as a set for £35, or are there any other shifters I could use.

What do you need 3x7 or 3x8?

If you want the combined lever and shifter, there is not a lot of choice, best bet is probably Shimano Tourney TX, which is a direct replacement.

Need the 3x7.when you look at the eBay ones they have no brand name printed on them so worried they are cheap fakes. Will look at the Tourney TX. Thanks

Fair enough, just found this one though which appears to be branded new, although a little more expensive. In fairness, pretty much any 3 speed shimano front shifter should work in 7, 8 or 9 speed as my understanding is that they all use the same cable pull ratio and pitch between chainwheels.
