Shimano to Sram

I have just purchased SRAM Red22 with hydro rim brakes for my new bike.
Previously I have only ever run Shimano group sets other than a less than enjoyable experience with Campagnalo EPS.

As someone who has no experience with double tap shifters I'm curious to know from people who have used both Shimano and SRAM what their experiences are.

Double Tap on the race bike and winter bike, Ultegra on the cross bike. Both are intuitive, you won't have any issues changing over.

IMO the SRAM system is vastly superior in terms of shifting feel, but it is a personal thing.

The shift paddles in the SRAM case do not have any redundant movement, thus requiring only a very small throw to shift to a harder gear, you can shift super rapidly as a result, you get a nice audible click when you shift too. Coming back through the gears is equally great. The yaw front mech on the SRAM Red groupset is brilliant. I prefer the shift mechanism in general, it just works better in my hands, especially from the drops.

The shape of the hoods is a little different too. Given the advantages of the groupset (weight vs cost, aesthetics etc), even if you prefer the Shimano feel, it would be worth persevering with the SRAM and getting used to it.

In terms of getting used to the shift mechanism, it doesn't take long at all.

I ride with both and switch between the two with ease, it only takes a few moments to adapt and both systems have their merits.

Prefer my Sram to my Shimano but happy using either. The Sram if you like it is just more straightforward. All that said some people hate it. As Robert says it is damn quick to drop into higher gears.

I'm not dropping Di2 I still like it and have it on three bikes at the moment, and it will be going on my new mountain bike as well.
The SRAM is going on my new Venge which is based around the Cavendish frame, so I'm kinda doing a replica (although cav's sram is 10 speed)
The EPS is slick, its probably the best electronic shifting on the market, when/if it works. Troubleshooting it was a nightmare and mine developed phantom shifting and would change gear on its own. Nobody could determine why, eventually the whole system was returned.

Shimano over sram double tap for me having ridden both. With shimano the shifting is straight forward no matter what combination with sram mistime the doubletap and it can be quite frustrating especially on hilly courses and can anyone comment have they sorted out the awful front mech changing its annoying - double tap it to go up from small to big but over tap and it immediately drops down again.

Yep I ride both Shimano 105 and SRAM Red. I prefer SRAM, as mentioned above the shifting is great although the noise the lever makes takes some getting used to. Give it a go, I've not found any problem changing between the two systems.

I can only assume they have resolved this front shifting issue you are describe because I have not had such an issue and tbh can not see how this would even happen.

SRAM Apex vs 105 was more clunky but in a strange kind of way better, felt much more precise than the Shimano. Rear changing better front was a bit more meh with SRAM.

Used Sram on 2 different bikes currently using Sram Red as said the shifter noise is a bit lary but i love it as youi well know some of the older stuff can be a little annoying to set up especially when 2 numptys are playing with it . I prefer the mechanical Sram to Shimano however never owned what you run so cant compare them.
