Shimano XT M770 Cassette lockring

Hi, just spent a lot of cash on one of these cassettes (XT M770) and whilst fitting it, I started to tighten the lockring up as usual (40Nm); no way near the max torque and it just snapped into 2 pieces!

Anyone else had this happen?

Looked up spare part and it costs £9

I'm sure it was faulty as it broke very easily.

I expect you'll find many are fitted without a torque wrench and at a much higher torque than the recommended 40Nm and are okay, so if you broke it at or below 40Nm then it definately sounds faulty.

They are usually pretty tough things and for one to break there had to have been something wrong with it or you have muscles like the Hulk...
