Genesis 38: 9-10

3 Then Judah said to Onan, "Unite with your brother's widow, in fulfillment of your duty as brother-in-law, and thus preserve your brother's line."
9
Onan, however, knew that the descendants would not be counted as his; so whenever he had relations with his brother's widow, he wasted his seed on the ground, to avoid contributing offspring for his brother

Interesting that.

In verse 9 Onan has relations with his brother's wife but wastes his seed on the ground; that sounds more like withdrawal than w*nking?

I like that photo - the contrast of the sillouette against the nice sky, the single pair of shoes picked out by the flash...

I notice an old bike tyre too... I wonder if it's like broken windows - once a tree has one bit of junk in it, it attracts others...

Yes , just shows how anybody can get lucky with a digital camera , all the other shots were absolute rubbish.

Well done spotting the tyre , I hadn't noticed that. There are at least three other pairs of shoes in that photo if you look hard enough.

Yes, but the Catholic church has used the sin of Onanism to condemn people who masturbate for the reason that God slew Onan for wasting his seed.
My take on it here is that even God hates self-gratification artists.

I think I can see 5 other pairs, maybe even 6...

Perhaps it's a local crop, like spaghetti....

blimey. A long time ago I went through Middlegate. No shoes in trees, but, then again, not many trees. And a shop. And that was about it. This is a seriously isolated place, and it's difficult to imagine how that many people with that many pairs of shoes they didn't want went through there.

does anybody still use these?

Yes, helps keep the leather Oxfords in shape, especially if they get wet.

It's on Kemper Avenue, close to the Glen Brae end. I havn't been in Falkirk for a couple of weeks so let me know if they're still there :0)

Sorry! Mr Pig, just remembered about the "shoes over the road" - they're still there. I took a slight detour from my normal cycling route today to check them out.

Bit out of your road - Falkirk - is it not?

Not really, we go there all the time. From where we are you can get to Falkirk on the back roads in about fifteen minutes, which is quicker than you can get into Glasgow. Falkirk is better anyway. Great shops, easy parking and a nicer place. We go there about every second weekend I'd say.

Thought the shoes would still be there, they've been there for months!
