Shoes for commuting / light off road

Hi folks

I'm after a pair of shoes that would be suitable for a commute on my hybrid bike which I take off road on canal towpaths occasionally.

Budget is limited - I guess under £70 - and I was thinking that something not unlike an MTB shoe might do the trick?

Any recommendations and advice will be most welcome.

I also prefer Specialized over Shimano for the same reasons as given by Morty.

I have just bought a pair of Spesh' BG Touring Shoe.
They should suit you well for your commute.
If you want to go more MTB look then you can't go wrong with the MTB Version

I've got some North Wave Mission MTB shoes.

My feet are reasonably wide so Shimano or Specialized were hopelessly narrow. These are really, really comfortable for both riding and walking.
