Ok i am 60 years young .Today i found how young people shop .Today my eldest is 15.We went out for a meal ,she picked Pizza Express in Leeds city centre .But we had to go shopping first .A pair of Vanns ,fancy shoes .
Now this how young people shop .You go on the computer .Look for shoes .Find a store that sells them .Online check their stock .Then from your computer you download a photo to your ipod touch .Then you go to the store .Take out your ipod touch show the photo to the trendy salesperson .Who then checks with a computer attached to a shop wall .Which we could have used to check ourselves .Yes they have said footwear. He then goes into stock room and hey presto .One sale and one happy birthday girl .

How far we have come in 45 years .Brilliant

Still, as you say, it's the result that matters! Internet research prior to shopping is really useful. Wife and daughter often check the online shops then go armed with details to the actual shop in town. Quicker than waiting for the same goods to arrive by internet order, and no postage to pay.

Closest I've got is taking photos of bits on my bike before now - things like specific cable-threader bolts where I'd have to remove the cable to remove the bolt, or handlebar grips so I can match the pattern - and shown them to the salesperson in the LBS to source spares. It works too!

Don't they have the actual shoes on display anymore so that you can look at them in the flesh, so to speak, Postman?

Kids want certainty. There's no point going into town spending an hopur or so deliberating over an extensive choice of shoes only to find that they don't have them in stock.

I'd hardly say that is indicative of how "young people" shop, neither do I think it's anything special.

Photos on mobile devices = around for ages
For everything else, you have argos.

It's good to see she was looking online at prices first though.

Most young people shop by going into places, and buying stuff which they dont need, which costs more for a brand, which they could have eaten prepared at home for 25% the cost etc etc etc...

It's the way that the vast majority of the kids that I teach operate though I agree it's nothing special.

Been around for ages but the application/use of the images is constantly evolving

Only if you want to look like everyone else who can't be bothered to shop around.

The fashion conscious kids do chase brands but being Yorkshire lads and lasses are keen to get the best prices and will spend the time on line to get the best deals.

It must be where I have been going wrong then.

When I want a pair of shoes I go into a shop, usually a factory shop with cheap seconds, and then find the type of shoe I want (steel toecap ankle height boots) and try on several until I find one that fits comfortably. I then select the colour of the fabric parts on the shoe I like and buy 3-5 pairs of the same type though possibly in different colours.

Fit and comfort are more important to me but I guess less so to young women.

I saw, while out on New Year's Eve, a young woman getting on a tram and she had black stillettos with diamante studs all over the shoes.
The shoes were very much too big for her feet as there was an inch gap between the back of her ankle and the back of the shoe.
She could have just stuffed newspaper in the toe and made them look like they fitted.
Or perhaps the point was to say she had 'fashionable' shoes but still had little feet?

There are some very old-fashioned shops round here. For instance, an ironmongers where you could buy one nut, bolt, bracket or hinge etc. They are in sorted by size into little plastic mini-containers by the counter, so you can take in what ever it is you need to replace, and fettle, rummage, or delve, as you prefer, to find the one you want, or request a quarter pound of five eights washers if you so desire.

I can go in there and ask for advice. Admittedly the staff wear blue polo shirts, not brown overalls, but they have decided to make some concessions to the 21st Century. Just over the road is a Sweet shop that sells sweets by the quarter 100g.

My brother in law showed me an app on his iphone at Xmas. You scan the barcode of the thing on your phone, and it tells you how much it is on Amazon....
