When shopping does anyone put their Brompton in the shopping trolley, a large trolley obviously, and take it round the supermarket with them to avoid having to leave it outside and risk it being nicked?

Yep.

I have also been known to wheel it round bookshops etc - you can do this by unfolding the handlebar for use as a handle, and then wheeling it on the rack wheels.

Yep -

It comes with me in pubs, restaurants even a black tie reception once.

I bought a lock for it but it's never been used.

Apropos of nothing - I was at Edinburgh train station last night and after I'd folded it a guy came up to me and asked to take a photo ! By bike will feature in his holiday snaps - very odd.

Yes, or wheel it around semifolded like StirlingCrispin with a basket balanced on front bag/handlebars.

Used to if I was using a trolley. If I was just in for croissants i'd fold it and pull it along using the castors.

I'm genuinley impressed.

One of the reasons that i dont use the bike "everywhere" ...actually its the only real reason (other than lazyness) is that i dont trust leaving it anywhere.

Its not worth much cash, But it means a lot to me and i'd be a bit lost without it.

Maybe I should look at a brompton....Hmmmm thats really got me thinking.

Plus, there's something very...sort of "non-competitive" about a brompton, you see far more people just taking it easy and riding in suits around london on them (never a spot of lycra)

Yep, I do the same. In M&S, the customer service desk look after it for me so I don't have to drag it round. In my local Tesco Express, the store guard stands next to it (or the trike, when I use that) while I'm shopping.

Yes, I have parked a Brompton is a trolley, but I'd also leave it under the information desk. The staff usually had no problem with this...

I don't normally put it in a trolley, I normally use it AS a trolley with the front basket fitted. Not the greatest as the weight can make it heavier to one side than the other, so the balance isn't brilliant, but it works fine. Push it around on its easy-wheels and hold by the seat (still upright). When Mr Houtkop and I are out together we sometimes put one in the trolley and wheel the other around.

I also never leave mine alone if I can help it at all. It comes inside with me, I don't commute with a lock on principle - and haven't been refused access anywhere (yet). In theatres / concert halls it can live in the cloakroom, otherwise it comes in with me. Most people are very accommodating.

Sold my Brompton about 2 years ago but wished I had not, for exactly this reason. I do not go to the shop on my bike because I will not leave it outside, I would really like the SLX6 but I would then have 4 bikes!

Have in the past put the Brompton in a supermarket trolley. Never got the hang of wheeling it around, maybe I wasn't doing it right as it felt unbalanced.

Got refused entry into the marketing suite of Barratts House Builders once as the sales woman thought oil would drip on their carpet:ohmy:

Also got refused entry on to Brighton Pier with it folded by an over zealous security guard who insisted no bikes were allowed:angry:
