Evening. There is a ride near me next weekend which will literally take about 30 seconds. Its called Ride the Ravine, the Ravine being a road joining the beach to the cliff above it. The ravine road is tarmac and straight, about 80 metres long but with a gradient of about 1 in 3 I reckon?! There is a bit of a run up but only from 90 degree approach. Fastest up the ravine will be King of the Ravine. My question is, for such a short steep ride, what would be best gear, riding position etc?

That looks an absolute blast - great idea for an event.

For such a short kick I'd be standing all the way up the up, sitting for a lower centre of gravity into the corner leading off the prom', then shifting up a couple of gears and absolutely stamping on it! No idea whether that's the best or most efficient way though...

As it seems to be a knockout competition in the solo events you'd only need to go a gnat's faster than your opponent*! :becool:

*but I imagine it will be massively competitive!

Just enough weight on the front to keep the front wheel on the ground leaving enough weight on the back to stop your back wheel slipping.

Good luck .

Best gear - a small one. Best position - out of the saddle, honking on the hoods. If the hill is near you, go practice.

8 seconds KOM? Not even a hill, more a bump in the road.
