Should being fat be socially unacceptable

It's partly people being dishonest with themselves but also partly that many food products are marketed as healthy when they're actually anything but. For me, starting a food diary was a real eye-opener in this respect.

The pressure to remain thin is everywhere - even the bath manufacturers are involved.
I had to rescue a slightly oversized rugby playing mate once, who got stuck below the narrow bit in the middle.

Out of interest, how old are you? You see, the thing is, I was the same until I reached my late 20s...
Nearly 40, sorry

I don't expect it to last forever, but for as long as it does I can't agree with anyone claiming skinnies have moral high ground over fat people due to superior self discipline. Different people find different things easy

The thing is thin does not always equal fit & healthy. The "lucky" ones who can and do eat what they like 7 days a week could be clogging up their arteries at a fast rate of knots combined with other lifestyle choices. That is my main problem with targeting overweight people they are not alaways the unhealthy ones..

I'm one of the lucky ones, the whole of my mother's side are built like beanpoles, but as you say that does encourage me to eat badly more often than I should, which is quite worrying.

In fact, the anxiety is driving me towards the cupboard...

Does anyone find it odd that the Olympics are being sponsored by certain fast food and sugar-based drink producers (I don't wanna get sued:laugh:) while the athletes themselves are all about being super-fit?. I'll bet they'll never go anywhere near a burger from an Olympic sponsor, eh?.

Yes, very paradoxical but it shows how much we've become dependent on big business and how detached a group of individuals acting within the bubble of a corporation can become. Something for another debate that one I think... !!

So this is what passes for reasoned discourse now is it? I suggest that you go and vigourously relieve yourself, and that the two gentleman who liked your post follow suit.

I think it was meant as a humerous reply - I.e. you called for tolerance so his reply showed none. I don't think he really believes you to be a preachy tosspot, or meant offence. Sarcasm doesn't always come over well online!

.. and how many athletes are using the Pampers nappy:

Although I think they missed the irony of Paula Radcliff as the promoter!

The P&G brand has enlisted the help of marathon runner Paula Radcliffe to promote the limited edition nappy, created especially for the summer games.
The product, retailing at around £6.49 for a carry pack, features a red polka-dot Union flag and blue and white detailing - with GB printed on the back.
Paula, a mother-of-two, posed up with her 16-month-old son Raphael for a photoshoot unveiling the GB Design Active Fit nappy, allowing mums and babies to 'show their national pride.'

The mother-of-two, 38, says: 'As an Olympic Games athlete I know how effort and determination can help us reach our full potential.
'As a mum I see the same determination in my children as they learn to overcome every day challenges through play.
'I understand the importance of having the right kit to help me achieve my athletic potential.'

Just seen a Vacansoleil rider in the Giro drinking a can of Coke. The camera did seem to linger on him while he was making a show of opening and then drinking it. I wonder if he's being sponsored?
