I have a hybrid and use it on tow paths etc, it manages to get me through but I can't help thinking my MTB is comfier....I have been considering larger tyres but am unsure as to how I can find out what size I need? Can anyone help?

Have a look on your current tyres and see what they say. I would guess they say something like "26 x something". the 26 is diameter in inches, and the next number is the width.

You need 2 bikes .. minimum

Would you only have 1 pair of pants? Wash and wear

Seriously if you commute you really do need a back up bike or a ebay bargain as either your main commuter like me or as a spare in case your main bike needs a visit to Doctor LBS

I actually own more bikes that I do pairs of shoes!!
(if I ignore the 3 pairs of cycling shoes...)

Cycling shoes don't count, they are accessories for the bike, like bar tape and mud guards.

What the op needs is a recumbent then you get the simutaineous equations:
N(upright) = N(upright)+1
N(bent) = N(bent)+1
