Should I have confided to my wife?

Confided to my wife that I have joined a cycling discussion forum. This was met with some desirory comment which my 11 year old daughter overheard and instantly asked if that meant that I had "new friends". This in turn was latched onto by the tag team of the 6 and 4 year old who couldn't wait to phone their granny and tell her "daddy's got new friends on the computer". I'm convinced the dog was even giving me a mocking look.

Does anyone else put up with this abuse?

beware one of the reasons citied on my divorce papers was that I criticised my husband to friends. Now he was clutching at straws because I didn't want to divorce him (naughty boy) and the solicitors did say they were the thinest grounds for divorce she'd ever seen but it was on a site such as this where he saw my girly chat. Now of course I have just proved him right but now you have given your wife grounds for divorce. Now that should get the chatterers amoungst us going.

No, thankfully. I love the idea of "new friends on the computer". It's nice to have friends on the computer.

I get stick off my missus, I go on Scoobynet, the Subaru Impreza website, I dont own one but nearly bought one years back, made some friends and have stuck around.

I met one of my best mates off C+..... just been out for a ride with him in fact. Of course if my three daughters told me they were meeting someone off a webforum I'd be really worried. They are aged 16 18 and 20!

I don't get any abuse, but I have to submit my History log each week for vetting to ensure I'm not visiting the 'wrong' sort of sites

Actually, given I used frequent Flight Simulator forums I think Mrs IWF is secretly pleased I'm talking to adults again!

got into forums in the very early days of the webby through West Ham sites, I've met so many people and made some genuine friends that the wife has met and liked and some the kids even call Uncle

it's a good thing and no more odd that talking to people at work, in the pub, anything

Oddly enough, no. The soon-to-be-wife is quite surprised that there's so much to talk about, but otherwise it doesn't faze her.

A year or so after meeting her I got involved in Geocaching and met some very good friends through that activity, some of whom I'm still in contact with (and one I am going to the wedding of early next year). My partner got quite interested in that game, and whilst she found some of the people who go along to the meets to be a bit geeky she had no problem with me going... probably because she knows I'm a bit geeky too.

I think there's only a problem when it becomes a secret illicit activity. I'm aware of people who have struck up secret relationships through mundane web forums which broke up marriages, all because they took on another persona online that they kept a secret from their spouse.

Yep, constantly, this place is refered to in the FF house as "his sad-mans website with his sad cycling friends..."

Now't wrong if it's your hobby - great way of getting advice and opinions...

My wife has machine sewing and embroidery forums...... gets lots of designs and deals off it, plus heaps of fabric from the USA (unfortunately)
