As for the forum Niall, it doesnt bother my missus. Its a source of information and entertainment. No more, no less.
I wonder sometimes if the IT guy at work objects more than my missus....i must log on 5 times a day at least at work

Yep, constantly, this place is refered to in the FF house as "his sad-mans website with his sad cycling friends..."
I'm sorry I had to tell you this.

That's OK ... it has similar names in this household too.

I doubt it. He probably has far bigger things to worry about. They won't be checking your history unless your boss has asked them too as a part of a wider investigation into your work.

I've kept Mrs 3BM away from this one - she thinks I'm obsessed with bikes without this forum chucking petrol on an already out of control fire. Agree with gbb on the IT guys at work though - hope they've got bigger fish to fry than me and my cycling habit...gulp!

Even though I've met quite a few people off here, my sister calls you lot "my imaginary friends".

My kids have mocked me for meeting strangers off the internet... you tell us not to do that sort of thing - why is it OK for you?

In the days of C+ there was a meeting after the Isle of Wight Randonnee in the Inn at Freshwater.

One of the attendees had been severely scolded by his daughter for going further and arranging a physical meeting strangers off the internet in person .... apparently we could have been a bunch of reprobates and not nice people!

I have to say I'm mildly mocked for spending time on here but then again I'm mildly mocked anyway

I've tried to explain, that just the same as real life, you build up friendships, follow the fortunes of others, share a joke, commiserate and comfort, argue and make-up, avoid people, seek others out, read words of wisdom, get advice, balance and perspective and most of all ....................... laugh - Out loud, involuntarily and often.

"Dad, what are you laughing at?"
"Well, something someone said"
"What's funny"
"Well........." and you can't explain it because as you try, you realize it's funny because you 'know' this person and their humor. It's not just what's written, it's the history too.

My girlfriend, whom I don't live with, always criticises me for being on the forum, but it's just bloody fine for her to be on facebook!

She refers to me as another sad cyclist!

After the east coast branch ride a couple of weeks back I'm now pleased to not only have met some pleasant people but to now know they actually exist. Somewhat relieved that all the posts I've spent time reading aren't just created by some web-bot or by an infinite collection of monkeys on keyboards.

I made the mistake of telling my ex that I spent a lot of time on here and BikeRadar and she ended up cyber-stalking me with my stepdaughter! It wasn't anything sinister, but they starting teasing me about things that I'd only mentioned online. It was a while before the penny dropped...

I think I'm safe now because they have forgotten the names of the forums and they didn't bookmark them. (But if you are reading this L/M - stop it !)

I've had other people say that it is really weird me meeting up with strangers off an internet forum and cycling into the wilds with them, but for some reason they think it is perfectly okay to sh*g a drunk they've just met in a pub !
