Hoy on twitter:
As a 14+stone MAMIL myself, this was a tongue-in-cheek article that wasn't meant to offend 1/2
I'm really sorry; reading it back it looks harsh &that wasn't my intention. Whatever ur age/build, if ur on a bike u have my respect 2/2

Chris Hoy's issue just not about lycra but wearing team kits.
People keep saying that, but it's not reflected in what he wrote
"The flipside is that Lycra isn't the most elegant material you can wear and professional cycling gear generally looks awful on pretty much anyone heavier than eight stone and with more than five per cent body aerodynamic fat."

We've shared articles posted on various news sites after the tweet, yes, but they are still appearing on news sites today.

The capture below is on BBC website now, today, as of an hour ago.

I do find it odd that it's looked on very much as a fashion thing.... why has no-one mentioned that lycra shorts (in particular) are practical and happen to work very well for cycling. Which is why they exist. I sure as hell don't wear them thinking I've turned into a catwalk model - I wear them so as to not cripple my tender bottom when on a long ride

Probably because other clothes are practical and happen to work very well for cycling and there are better ways "to not cripple my tender bottom when on a long ride" but it's largely fashion that has driven the recent view that padded lycra is the One True Way and sprung or padded saddles are to be ridiculed.

heres @User14044 modelling his new cycling cap..

For the record, I'm not on Twatter or Faceplant. My life is at least ten minutes behind the rest of the universe^_^
Me neither.

Well, facebook but only for my friends.

All I was suggesting is you keep up with this thread

And that goes double for BBC Scotland. Really, two day old tweets about nonsense should not pass the threshold of news. blah blah ... licence fee ... blah blah

What does annoy me is that you can buy a perfectly good running t shirt in a Lycra type material for about a tenner but make it a bit longer at the back and add 3 pockets and suddenly it is fifty quid
