Should I uninstall my wireless network card?

I keep losing my connection, then I click on the network icon to find the network adaptor card has crapped out. There's an option to run a troubleshooter, which I do, and the thing starts up again and all's well. Until the next time. This happens on a regular basis, and it's driving me nuts.

I wondered whether the driver might be iffy, so I tried 'update driver', but it just says it's already using the best driver. So I wondered if maybe there was a glitch in the driver. So I thought maybe if I uninstall the device, then reboot, Windows (7) would detect it, install the driver, and that might sort it out.

Or is that a really dumb idea?

(It's an HP Probook 4520s with a Ralink RT3090 adaptor, if that matters/helps.)

I'd first go onto the HP web site and download the device driver, so you have it on your hard drive, and then try uninstalling it, and then install it using the one you've downloaded.

My Probook 4520 is the same! Try FD's reply above as HP seem to tied their laptops down so you can't even update from the manufacturer's site.

Thanks for that. Sorry if I'm being an idiot, but I couldn't find a driver with that exact name. Is it one of these?

TBH, they are all over 12 months old so probably worth a shot getting Windows to check to see if it can find better drivers.

I'd uninstall, then run the driver file you downloaded.

I'd be prepared to gamble that that is the driver you already have being as it's version 1.0 and has a release date similar to your PC.

Not that that helps at all; some examples of this system board had integrated WiFi I think but if it has a separate card (the HP system spec is ambiguous) then I might think about replacing it for IntelPRO

That is, of course, unless that driver above does work and I sincerely hope it does.

This is also a possibility and worth a try

Interesting. Well, so far so good. It's installed, it's working. Now to see how it goes. When it craps out, I'll be back to ask how to change the channel on a router setup. Thanks all.
