^_^I wish I had never started reading this. I want them all.

Your Dawes is good touring bike and are quite sellable. So you will have that money to add to your kitty.

That pinion looks interesting. I wonder what weight it adds to the bike? I would choose rohloff over the pinion at the moment as it is well tried and tested and the pinion is more of a prototype.

I have a Koga World Traveller and I love it.

Jackie, what colours your motorbike. All mine are red.:0)

Hi Geoff,

These are the Duremes http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/schwalbe...0-rigid-tyre-26-x-20-inch-(50-559)-prod22099/
They are no longer made, but SJS ordered in a whole load of them and recommended them for my trip and I must say they did very well. They have a centre section which rolls well on the road and then a more knobbly side wall for off road. They are slightly more off road based than the Supremes.

My grips are the Ergon GP5's and again I have been very pleased with them. I had drops on the Dawes Galaxy and could not get on with them, but that may be because the bike had too long a reach for me. I find the GP5's have 4 different hand positions.
1. On the normal grips
2. On the sides of the bull horns
3. On the forward part of the bull horns
4. I also find it comfortable to rest the hands so that my hands are flat with heels of hands on the grips and fingers on the front of the bull horns.
I found that whilst touring I used all of these positions throughout the day. Grips and bull horns can be moved up and down separately and it takes a little while to find your perfect position but I really like them. My bars are the Thorn Flat Track. These have a slight angle back towards you. I liked the look of the comfort bars but they ended up being too wide for me with the GP5's.

The stand is a Click Stand http://www.click-stand.com/ and Thorn are fine about using one of these for the frame. You still have to be careful using one of these when loaded as again the front wheel will often turn when you least expect it to. On the whole though it was a pretty useful bit of kit.

I love the red Sherpa especially as the only other colour option was matt black and I am not a black sort of person (though the one pictured on here recently looks very nice) Good luck in whatever you choose and I am sure you will be very happy with your Thorn. I had so many doubts to begin with as I have never spent that sort of money on a bike before, but I have no regrets whatsoever.

Steve, my Serow is a black and white one and I have a Blue Triumph Bonneville SE with the mag wheels, though I think I may be selling that at some point as I never ride it.

Thanks for all that very useful info. I'll certainly consider the flat track bars. And I reckon I need a click stand.
Hey, you have a Serow ... like Lois Pryce. I'm very impressed! Off down to Bridgwater on Weds on my 1200GS Adventure (red, of course). Camping in Cheddar overnight. 'Hope the rain's not too bad for the journey
Have fun riding ... with and without motors.
Cheers
Geoff
