A post of mine recently appeared 'Bowdlerised', with the word **** starred out. I'm not talking about ****, or ****, just ****, which I'm sure we can all agree is a pretty harmless and long-established bit of anglo saxon English. Shakespeare used it, for ****'s sake. I've never minded my kids using it, even though I'm actually quite a stickler about language in the house, and enforce a strict ban on all sorts of language that I realise is commonplace among their mates. 'Keep it for the playground!'

I suspect this stems from forum software produced by Americans, who as we all know are far more prissy about such matters than we are. I realise that across vast swathes of the midwest, people think people were made perfect by their Creator, apart from all those awful dangly bits and the need to take the occasional dump, but this is Britain, and we're a bit more robust about such matters, aren't we?

I suppose the question is, where do you draw the line? I accept that given this place's openness to visitors of all ages and cultures, you can't have stuff like **** and ******, let alone ****** or ****. But ****? Or *******? Surely even a casually browsing poppet will survive any assault by such vocab?

Is the software 'tweakable'? If so, how (if at all) should it be tweaked?

It amazes me the language that most get away with on here when I had a post pulled that contained a comment regarding Scott Gardner's private VP photo collection.

Also remember this is a family forum, no need for profanity as not all people use it in their daily lives.

If you do wish to use profanity, please try to be inventive with it and use the appropriate local dialect terms as follows: -

instead of ****head, the correct term is Tumshie
instead of ******* idiot, the correct term is glakeit gowk

and so on
