Children should not chase birds. I've been a birder for years and I can attest to this being a traumatic activity for any wild animal. I see far too much of this and I'm very glad you spoke up. I say something as well, gently. And even in asking a parent in the most kind way possible, I've still experienced incredible belligerence. I assure you I am not acerbic. It's a sign of the times that children, even the worst behaved, can do no wrong in their parents' eyes. Those of us who have to live with the bad behavior -- or who witness this bad behavior harming others (including animals) -- are somehow deemed "wrong" for simply asking that the youngsters among us abide by certain, civil social constructs.
