I'm slowly building a 1992 Rocky Mountain rigid mtb into a winter hack capable of getting me to work whatever the winter throws at us. Just waiting for a set of ice tyres to arrive and i'll take some pics of it.

What does your extreme winter bike look like?

Distressingly similar to my summer bike.

I took delivery of my new loved one a week ago. It's huge fun. What has the weather got to do with it? It will get wet and a bit salty perhaps. So what? It's a bike.

This is my Winter, Summer, and everything in between bike. I commute every working day of the year on it.

Yes, I know, it's upside down, but this is Down Under, after all!

Classic Luxus racer fixed wheel

El cheapo '70s steel frame, 63" fixed wheel, dynamo powered lighting, Spa cycles leather saddle. This is the winter 2012 spec. I have fitted one of the basic Shimano dynohubs and changed to cotterless chainset and sealed BB over the summer.

And for hilly rides:

Kalkhoff

70s Kalkhoff built with Sturmey 3 speed hub (gears of ~45", 60", 80") and again dynamo lighting. I find this gearing works really well for me.

Mickle says extreme weather. Yup my winter commuter is the same as the summer one, but I do have an exterme conditions bike that will get through ice and a foot of snow !
