This is my shorter and busier route. Says I burn over 600 calories one way, which is nice.

I looked at your route via satellite and it looks lovely and green.

Best part - virtually all rural, so very pleasant/scenic cycling especially in the summer, plus very few give way junctions so can keep a steady pace.

Worst part - quite a lot of climbing, enough to tire me out after about three back-to-back commutes. Oh, and the road surfaces can be dreadful sometimes.

This is my usual route.

Haven't ridden the full route since i started with sciatica in september. Been putting the bike on the train for a good part of it since beginning december. I hope to start cycling the full distance either this week or next. But the off-road section between miles 12 and 13 will not be cyclable until April/May due to snow depth.

You're from my neck of the woods ... I'm an Otley lad originally. My route is quite rural, which is nice - tonight I got passed by one vehicle - and there's a point on it that I can see both ends of the route.

That looks pretty tough, especially if some of it's off road.

It was tough when i started it back in May last year, but you get used to it (kind of). Got it down to 1hr 2min 17 secs (to be precise) on a mtn bike.

I bought a cx bike as there's only 3 miles off road. Also with the aim of bringing the time down towards 45/50min but buggered up my back. I've been cycling 4-7 miles each day since i physically could (december) and think i'm ready for the full commute now.

Just wish the bloody snow would, at least, melt from the roads.

PS. Your route does look very nice and rural. Nice part of the world that.

Here's Jimbo's test. It never fails.

Notes.
I set the software to 'running'.

1/ It takes me down Solihull By-pass, where there's NO FOOTPATH.

2/ It takes me round the M42 junction gyratory, where's there's NO FOOTPATH.

3/ It DOESN'T know there is a footpath overbridge which joins the two closed ends of the old Warwick Road.

4/ It's NOT the shortest route.

5/ If I select 'cycling' it still takes me counterclockwise round the M42 junction gyratory.

All in all, It's useless.
