The buckle will slow you down, as has been proven in multiple studies, one of which you can find here: http://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s12283-010-0037-0/fulltext.html

The differences are likely to be in the order of seconds. Which in a race is something well worth considering, given that you are going to buy shoes anyway, buying some that do not come with a built in aero penalty is essentially a free gain!

Might not concern you, or most CC users, but it would certainly be something I'd consider!

Skimmed it - surprised at the result of aero covers being so negative!

Also surprised to some degree, but then they put it on a bulky lumpy shoe so it would have been bulky, lumpy and also cavities around the buckles thus maybe acting as a bit of an aero sieve? They didn't try it on the other shoe there it would have been smoother etc.

Shoe covers get mixed press, some claim big savings, others claim losses. Probably comes down to the individual shoe cover and the shoe you put it over.

A lot of them seem flappy around the ankles as well - that cannot help!

I have an old pair of Sidi Ergo 2's which have served well for 2yrs but are getting a bit scrappy now. I've always found Sidi's to be good although the fit is quite narrow and can be a uncomfortable if you have flipper feet. I've now gone for a pair of Bont Vaypour's specifically as they are moldable (which I haven't done yet):

I bought the Mega versions of what I posted. I have slightly flat feet, too. I might buy moldable shoes after I use these up

If they last like most cycling shoes, you have many years to save up, lol!

My current shoes are 4-5 years old!
Damn, I was getting excited about moulding shoes  do you have photos of your shoes right now? I'd would love to see the current condition after 5 years.

Not really no, but the condition of them is fine (they are not exactly shoe porn). As you would expect the sole is a bit scuffed up from walking about and they have a few scuffs here and there, but they are in perfectly good shape. They are cycling shoes, not really much happens to them to destroy them and some basic care (i.e. taking the inner sole out if they get soaked and stuffing them with newspaper and putting them in the boiler cupboard to dry them out) should ensure they last a long time.

Cycling shoes are one of the only bits of my kit I haven't bothered to upgrade of throw cash it.
