Yeah, I got some steel bikes around here somewhere. Each time I ride one I’m amazed at how nicely they ride. I get to work on a lot of really high end bikes and have to test ride them when they are finished being serviced and none of them feel quite as nice.

I’m temped to build up a nice vintage frame with wireless Sram to see what I get.

I'll allow it. The Carradice may have clinched the deal...

Very good of you Guv'nor.

I was ridiculously pleased to find that I could stay with steel as I made the move to electric.

2025 Update. Diura Ace Di2 battery died after 15 years so now using the actual Ultegra battery.Chainset changed now 46/31,Hunt wheels ( they’re really wide ) bar tape.
So I’m out early Sunday mornings 5am and freewheeling is very antisocial.

I saw a Colnago Master in a shop in the Lake District kitted out with the latest top end Campagnolo carbon electronic groupset and carbon wheels. I dare say that it would be superb to ride but just looked all wrong. Mine looks like how I think they should look, and I think I'll stick.

That is a properly beautiful ride. Were it mine I think it would likely spend its winters displayed some where in the house.

Mine spends winter disassembled in the loft. (It was used year round for the first few years of its life. Oops!)
It gets refurbished every February and is like getting a new summer bike every year. 😎

My two steel machines - Brother Mehteh gravel bike and Fairlight Strael for winter roads.

Ha, both photos were taken shortly after I had them built up. The Fairlight has subsequently been cut but I need to get the other one done at some point.
