Been out on ours a few times since lock-down - the airport 11 mile loop + once to Whitley Bay [30 miles], but need to get new saddles as the Viking ones aren't very comfortable on longer rides.

Thinking of getting an Orbit Velocity e-assist tandem now that we have more time since MrsA_T retired, which will mean selling the Viking.

A few weeks ago (Feb 2025), I was cycling between Samut Songkhram and Cha-Am (south Thailand) when a family of 5 on a tandem overtook me. (I was only tootling along at about 10mph.) I caught up with them a few kilometres up the road, outside a 7 Eleven store where they'd stopped for snacks. The husband is American and lives in China with his Chinese wife and their three kids. They had the tandem made by Oregon-based Co-Motion Cycles and shipped to China. The family had cycled from Bangkok and were heading south (like me), but were not how far south they would go. Very impressive: the bike and family!

Back in 2022, we paid well over the odds for a scruffy Super Galaxy Twin which had been languishing, unloved and unused, in a garage in Thornbury near Bristol. I got it home, rebuilt it with 7 speed brifters (which didn't play nicely with the triple chsinset) and mini V brakes (which didn't fit properly), then lost interest in it and stuck it in the spare room for, er, two years. A few weeks ago I dug it out and refitted the original downtube shifters and cantilever brakes. We finally managed to get out on it yesterday for a 20k loop finishing at the pub. It's a lot of fun, and a great way for two riders of different abilities to ride together.
