The G Shock does have a certain cachet amongst men of action. The EW-9053 is current choice for those in the know as it's the version issued to Navy SEALs.
Useless fact. SEALs were "issued" with Rolex Sumbariners back in the day. They were supposed to be returned when they left the service, but I expect many weren't.
Repairs were eye wateringly expensive and the navy had been scouting about for a replacement when the G Shock came along as the first non premium watch to properly meet the required specs. They now get issued the 9053 with a red filter over the 'glass', although many prefer to buy a Submariner instead as its a bit of a military frogman thing.
The French Marine Nationale used to issue Tudor subs to their frogman and they now change hands for very serious money (the watches, not the frogmen.)
