As I said, there are times when the front riders in a group can see situations developing that a following vehicle will not be able to see. So yes, sometimes it is necessary to 'take up the whole road' for everyone's safety and it isn't good practice to single out automatically at the approach of a car.

With you on that. There's a guy who rides with our mid week group who's always calling 'car up!' from the back (funnily enough he never seems to be on the front) and other riders automatically start to single out even when there's loads of room for the car to pass or we're better off staying in pairs.

the motorist also has the right to go about his business without being delayed simply because you want to chat/race/pace yourself with your buddy. .

Which has got to be more important than whatever we're doing, right? Oh, wait...
