I like both but road bike more than mountain bike. The road bike transports me long distances with less effort, commuting, visiting friends and family etc. It also is far faster than my mountain bike. I wouldn't want to ride down a forrest trail on my road bike though.

Love em both but tend to road bike more now as only Thetford near us for MTB trails so tend to save that for trips away. Also getting a bit too past it for too much MTBing!

I love em both, but its easier to get out on the roads than it is to find good off road trails.

Its the speed on the road and the greater distance I can cover. But off road on the MTB its more about enjoying the scenery and not worrying about traffic. Just wish I had the time to do more of both!

road. more speed for your effort, an you arrive home cleaner. on the other hand i can see the attraction of offroad as an alternative when it's wet or icy.

I love riding my touring bike on road and on rough stuff, mountain bikes were not around when the Rough stuff fellowship started see http://www.rsf.org.uk I got nothing against those that ride mountain bikes, it`s just that I`m old git!

Allow me to be slightly more specific..

for MTB.. XC bores me absolutely to tears, but DH is, in my opinion, the most fun you can have on 2 wheels. There's simply no other sensation like it. Also, the mindset of the DH crowd is fantastic.

for road, I enjoy TT's very much, and again, the mindset of the TT guys I've encountered has been brilliant.
For regular road riding, it's ok, none too exciting, but the mindset of many of the participants is dreadful. As I said to someone recently in an email, the vain, obnoxious, shallow, prissy little brand-whores really aren't my cup of tea. It's too bad there are so many, they taint what would be an otherwise really fun sport.

Which do I prefer?

I prefer them both, in equal measure. I prefer both to each other at all times, equally and without ambivolence.

I've carried out extensive empirical studies into preference and can find no logical problem with the above statement.

What do I hate?

Carrying anything more than a half-full water bottle.

And mint sauce. Why did anyone EVER think it complemented the taste of roast lamb?
