Single malt

I've been very kindly gifted an expensive bottle of single malt. I'm generally a rum drinker and never really tried a whisky that I like. Should I keep it for value, see if I can exchange it or do you think being a very good one I might like it?

Impossible question.
Whiskies vary so much that even whisky devotees don't like different regions etc while others love them.

Like anything, particularly in the world of alcoholic drinks, without any experience it wil mean nothing.

On the positive side, it isn't going to go off within your lifetime.

Suggest that you look at options for gaining some experience of whiskies before opening the bottle.

I bought my daughter a bottle of single malt from Luss Distillery in Loch Lomond - had to ask the staff which one was nearest to Jack Daniels - anyway their 'main' whisky is aged in old bourbon casks. Daughter thinks it's very nice. I'm lost on Whisky as I can't stand it.

I used to enjoy Laphroaig until someone said it tasted like soap... since then all i can taste is soap.
