I've not been too fussy about chain sets, using any that I have from older bikes. I've even used a standard double to good effect. Something like a 42x17 for casual riding and then switching to the 52x15 for a time trial and the chain slack being absorbed at the same time. It's also easy converting a double to a single by using shorter crank bolts or spacers.

Recently I've been impressed with Sinz cranks (square taper) and you can go quite short with these cranks.
