Wife and girls of to Morocco next year. So thinking about doing some touring abroad. I have a 2013 sirrus and loveit. Got rear rack and panniers and can travel really light. I think that my bike will be capable of doing it but am I fooling myself. Any help would be grateful. Thinking of Holland or France also any suggested mods. Tried to post this once so sorry if seemed I am repeating myself. I call it old age.

It will be fine. Does it have mounts for a low loader rack in the front forks? If not it will still be fine. Maybe fit a bar bag to balance the weight you will have on the back. Get a decent rear rack such as a Madison Summit - 5 year warranty, very strong, rigid, light and CHEAP. Do NOT buy Blackburn racks as they are CRAP. Front low loader - Tubus Tara. Also get some good panniers. Vaude, Ortlieb or Altura. HTH.

As for choosing Morocco, your bike should be fine - I met people on all sorts of bikes. I would probably go for 35mm or 38mm tyre width to cope better with poor surfaces, but it's perfectly possible to tour Morocco entirely on tarmac so that needn't be a big deal. You say you can travel light, so you may not need front panniers. Even in the mountains I was passing shops or restaurants every 20 or 30km, and there will be hotels in every town, so you don't really need to carry too much gear with you. Make sure you are prepared for hills though - it may just be possible to plot a fairly flat route down the Atlantic coast, but the best of the country is very lumpy indeed. It is a fantastic country for bike touring though, and you'll meet many others doing the same.

Some pre-tour nerves, particularly if it is a first time tour abroad, are normal, these soon disappear when you get the pedals turning on foreign soil.
I would recommend Holland rather than France, far more bike friendly and communication with the natives is easier. Depends how long you plan to go for, but a rack and rear panniers could be adequate. If planning to camp, you could save weight on the bike by eating out rather than carry all the cooking gear.
