It has just popped into my head that i have not had a beer wine or spirit for six months. The shock of having been so ill with the gallbladder and the constant questions from the medical team about how much i drank Has put me off the stuff. And it's been easy, reason the cycling has been fantastic, speed is up not carrying weight i have lost a lot and i feel better for it.Soddin trousers and jeans needed a few more holes in the belts. But hey it's great.

Lost it, got it again.
Nice. I need (not the right word really) a length of time off the booze. I'm not a huge drinker by any means, just feel I should have a "detox" 3 months or so after the summer.

Nice one.
I have always thought of going down the teetotal route. Especially now that I'm no longer a football season ticket holder which gave me an excuse to get blotto every other week.

I can go weeks no without having a drink, but then when you do have a beer, wine or spirit after not having one for a while - Yegods it tastes bloody marvellous.

Fair play to you! I could do with taking a break or just knocking it on the head. Seems easier said than done for some reason though. I guess the first stage is to stop buying the stuff right? - None in the house must make it easier to resist.
Dont get me wrong, im not an alcoholic (they go to meetings), just if we have wine in the fridge I find I fancy a glass - which generally means 3. Not every night I hasten to add! Probably a couple of times a week.

I gave up a few months after quitting the fags, 01/01/09. The two were always linked and drinking rather stopped making sense without a fag. And becoming a 'dad' (to pre-existing kids) it just felt atrocious being drunk around them. Teetotal for the first 18+ months or so, I do now have the very occasional one, and then after, wonder why I bothered.
I don't miss it, which is a little weird considering what a total piss head I used to be.

I'm a drinker not an alcoholic. Alcoholics go to meetings, I go to parties. ^_^

Berties

Fast and careful!
I drink only on holiday or on birthdays, but it always seems really hard not to at those occasions,a swift one at the airport or a glass of something at birthdays is a social thing, not a habit or a dependency:cheers:

I can go for a couple of weeks without having a drink then set off on a trip to Africa and drink several bottles of excellent African lager a day. There's no pattern to it, it's something I enjoy but can easily go without.

I've been on a one day a week regime this year, but have had none at all in the last 4 weeks Not really missing it to be honest but will reward myself with a few on completion of The Etape.

Coming from the opposite angle. I don't bother drinking for most of the year - there's still booze in the house bought for Christmas 2010 but I make an exception for Knockengorroch festival every year.

This year at the festival I drank so much that I put on 10.5 pounds over the weekend. When the Slimming World consultant suggested that the weight gain might be due to water retention I feigned injured feelings and said that not a drop of water had passed my lips all weekend.
I managed to shed all but a pound of the gain over the following week.

Last weekend I was at the Big Session Festival in Staffordshire and my alcohol consumption was less than four pints. The atmosphere was conducive to boozing and I had my wife with me to oversee my behaviour......

Back on the wagon until I reach the Danube in four and a bit weeks' time.
