I reckon Skeggy is the exception to the rule that fish'n'chips are best at the seaside.
@screenman has it right, IMHO, the Mermaid in Horncastle (South Street) is superb, and has a nice little park smack opposite.
If it's raining, Mantles on the E side of Horncastle market square is quite good again after a couple of rocky years, and has a downstairs restaurant.
I had a similar experience to
@Fnaar when in my late teens, just walking along minding our own business when a passing yob shouted "Tottenham Hotspur?" and lashed out at my mate, who wasn't, as far as I could tell, wearing any distinguishing colours or badges, but strangely enough
was a Spurs fan. I managed to get in the way and got a black eye for my trouble. Haven't been back more than a handful of times, and then only under protest!
