hope you enjoy the break

Skeggy...............its a lovely town if you are there for a day, a week may get boring, go down to Donna nook for a day if you can, either it will be very quiet or the RAF will put on a show for you, but thats about it for Skeggy, a lovely East coast town but it has been swallowed up by Grimsby, nip down to Cleggy if you can........as for chip shops,go inland and find out where the locals go

With your back to the sea at the clock tower, walk down road past shopping centre - road splits into 2. Take left fork and there's several chip shops along there.

But best bet is to probably look for the queue with the fat people in it...then again they're all probably at mcdonalds!

Have you noticed the transport many use for the pub run, by that I mean mobility scooters. As for best chippie, well it must be The Mermaid in Horncastle, least that is the closest I would consider. I hope the weather improves for you and that you have a good time.

I have some fond childhood (well, teenage) memories of Skegness.

I went back there in my 20s, with a couple of friends, We had an 'altercation' in a nightclub, and basically got beaten up. Then I was nearly arrested... they picked up one of the perps, and I tried to have a pop at him. I think all concerned were very drunk, except for the police. Who (once everyone had calmed down) basically told us he was well-known locally, they couldn't really charge or hold him, and that our best bet was to leave town in the morning! So we did. Me with a very bruised abdomen and a massive black eye.

Sorry I didn't see half the posts guys, signal is sketchy in the glorified shed.

I can't believe most of the chippy's were shut on a Sunday evening. Only 2 we're open and I definitely made the wrong choice. All staff couldn't understand my request for batter so had to ask for scraps only to be told "you won't get that in Skegness".

WHY NOT, you cook the bloody fish in it? Then she put the smallest portion of chips and the most anorexic fish into an open carton and pours mushy peas over it. I didn't ask for peas and got the response "well that's the special"

I DIDNT ASK FOR THE SPECIAL

I can't blame it on the seaside resort as we get better at South Shields and Whitley bay, I think they've just got away with it for so long it's now accepted as the norm.

Sorry for the rant

I reckon Skeggy is the exception to the rule that fish'n'chips are best at the seaside.
@screenman has it right, IMHO, the Mermaid in Horncastle (South Street) is superb, and has a nice little park smack opposite.
If it's raining, Mantles on the E side of Horncastle market square is quite good again after a couple of rocky years, and has a downstairs restaurant.

I had a similar experience to @Fnaar when in my late teens, just walking along minding our own business when a passing yob shouted "Tottenham Hotspur?" and lashed out at my mate, who wasn't, as far as I could tell, wearing any distinguishing colours or badges, but strangely enough was a Spurs fan. I managed to get in the way and got a black eye for my trouble. Haven't been back more than a handful of times, and then only under protest! :B)

I think I'd walked out at that kind of service.

When you are hungry and the other option is no better, well you know you are in Skeggy, it is not so much the armpit of the UK but the arxx hole.

Thread resurrection! Another chippy sufficiently far from Skeggy to be good, Kyme Road Chippy in Heckington. North of the village centre, on a minor road towards South Kyme, at about TF146446. Had some superb, and cheap (£4.15) haddock and chips here yesterday after watching the very competitive grass track racing at the Heckington Show.
