I'm a pretty active sort of fellow, always have been. Surfed, skateboarded, Windsurfed, Canoed, Sailed, Hiked, Camped, Scrambled, Squash, Badminton, Hockey, Fencing, Go-karting yadda yadda yadda ... all kinds of stuff, but I've never ever had any interest in going skiing ... ever. I don't mind watching Ski Sunday or the Winter Olympics in much the same way as I like watching Rugby .... I just don't want to do either.
To make matters worse, Mrs Foodie is going for the first time (as a 50th treat) with daughter #2 and the lad and tagging along with a group of friends who all think me a miserable basket for not participating. Now it seems there are some things in life that you're simply not allowed not to rave about, for example; The Beatles, Mozart etc. etc. Skiing is in that category it seems. I'm bored witless by people telling me how much I'd love skiing and on and bloody on. So, prompted by a lovely bit of anti-skiing polemic by srw I thought I'd ask the question.

I had pondered it for a while, so instead of investing in a full winter holiday, I treated myself to a 'Learn to ski in a day' course at Tamworth snowdome. By the end of the afternoon I was snowploughing all the way from the very top, a really enjoyable day, but I knew I had no desire to strap skis on again.
I had also pondered scuba diving, so did something similar. The result was completely the opposite, I am now working toward my Master Diver certificate.

Haven't been for ages and as Mrs D is not a fan can't see me doing it again anytime soon but a holiday where you're alternating activitywith eating carbs? What's not to like?

The release bindings are fantastic. I've seen more broken legs than f~@cked knees. I can ski just about anything (ability but age and sensible head is now here) but I simply CANNOT use skates of any description.

Did it at school and really enjoyed it but i would really rather spend the money on going somewhere warmer. We get enough cold weather here in England to want to pay to spend time in it even racing down a mountainside albeit great fun.

Part of my childhood was spent living very near to the Scottish ski areas; when I was about 8 or 9 I remember being asked at school to draw/paint a picture of what I wanted to be when I grew up, and I remember vividly that I painted a picture of a skier.

But that was only because it was really easy to paint a frontal view of a face covered in a helmet and goggles.

Non pour moi:becool:

Tried it once a long, long time ago, I couldn't do it at all, rather stupidly alcohol was a factor.

Went with the school and loved it . For a few years after we used to go to the dry ski slopes over here but I have no wish to go somewhere cold for a holiday . I wouldn't mind the afternoon at a dry ski slope though . That may be a fun day out for you and your family , not that its any of my business .

I went a couple of times in my 20's and really enjoyed it. It had always been my intention to go again, but never got around to it. For a holiday, it is rather expensive though and I think I'd find it easier to justify spending the money on bike parts, which will give more enjoyment long term.
