Maybe I missed another thread but is anyone going/has anyone been skiing this year? We're off on Saturday avec enfant and seriously can't wait. What's the snow like, anyone? We're going to La Plagne.

I absolutely loathe snow and its ilk, a result of working outside in all weathers for years, but I'm envious that you are off on holiday. Have a good time and send us all a virtual postcard.

Didn't make it this year, I'm saving the pennies big time to make it out to Japan next year! Perfect powder, untouched by the locals :becool:

Hi Cathryn. Went to La Plagne a few weeks ago and there was loads of snow. Over a foot fell one day. I think it's still really good now - it's a pretty high resort so even on warm days if you stay high you'll be fine. There's miles of pistes so you can explore somewhere new each day including Les Arcs if you get that giant cable car effort thing. You can ski down to yr hotel as well mostly instead of pissing about with busses. La Plagne's not what you'd call a pretty resort but it's got everything there you need for a good laugh.

+1.. hate it hate it.

Went Skiing for the one and only time about 15 years ago. It was far too cold, far too much hard work, and hated being shouted at by a Cock of a Ski instructor. I lasted 1 day on the slopes, spent the rest of the week in the bars.. and promised myself never to go Skiing again..and haven't.

BUT... enjoy Cathryn

Hi Cathryn, been a couple of times to La Plagne and stayed in Belle Plagne which unlike the rest of La Plagne is actually very picturesque. If you are not staying there check it out, you can detour on the run back from Les Arc and ski down the main street, most accommodation there is ski in, ski out.
This year we did Kitzbhuel at Chrisrmas, very pretty, very expensive and too low for reliable good snow.
Enjoy, snow is looking good and I'm a touch envious.

We stayed in Courcheval 1650 for the first week of January, lots of very good snow, I envy you, wish I was heading back out this week.

Have fun.

I did the cheapo version of this in Jan and stayed at Brides les Bains. Brilliant conditions.

There's lots of snow but at this time of the year it will be worn and icy on the main runs and hard and icy higher up where it has re-frozen overnight. Best skiing will be as high as possible where the snow is least affected by the sun.
