I am your Father
I am looking to pick the brains of you intelligent beings of Cycle Chat.

While I am not quite ready & have missed the boat on the deal, I aim to be well informed on my next car deal.

The Personal Lease or Hire deal I looked at was this...

Skoda Octavia VRS diesel Estate
List price approx £25k +
£1800 deposit & 23 months @ £199
Mileage limit of 8000 PA with approx 7p pm over & above (which is fine by me)

I work this out to be £265.70 pm over 24 mths £1800 +4,577 ÷ 24.
I am currently paying £317 pm to buy my car on 0 % finance.

Now, I phoned but couldn't get to speak to the Sales people.

Do these Lease deals usually have servicing included ?

What are the negatives ?

I know that I would never own the car but, trying to factor in depreciation, servicing, tyres & parts etc I might be better off.

What do you deal chasers think is better, Buy or Lease ?

Many thanks.

Steve.

Personally I'd buy (after getting a big discount) before leasing but whatever you decide you must pay a visit to Madam Ling's mad mad mad website

The way I see it is the lease company want a profit on the deal, so do the garage that supplies the car. There are tax benefits and I would talk to my accountant on that one.

I have been in the motor trade for 44 years I always buy my cars outright. Being self employed means I have never had a set income for the next 3 or 4 years, so I buy on what I can afford now rather than what I might be able to afford a year or two down the road. I would be buying a 2012 or 13 and end up with more money left in the bank account. My current Passat I paid £7000 for it at 3 years old, new it was about £21500.

Nice car you are looking at there.

You could look at Eurolease.
Mr M is leasing from them for the first time, good service and no deposit. They have a good selection of cars.
We usually buy new or nearly new cars but lose so much when we sell them.
Our service contract is just under £30 per month, includes tyres, etc.

I looked at lease, but as my mileage varies between 20k and 7k a year, the deals were very one sided. ie pay for 7k and a massive mileage charge if I went above it or pay for 20k and no refund if I failed to get near that.

You still lose, just monthly instead of in one go. I buy ex lease cars every time I change mine.

If you want a new car every 2 or 3 years with no hassle then it's the way to go.
Says Mr M!

I beg to differ on that one. I must add I am very pleased people and companies do lease cars though as it makes a difference to my income each week, for the good that is.
