Wonder why Tour Down Under went to Bike Channel ?

I missed it all because it wasn't on Eurosport & didn't know it was on BC instead.
I think TDU was on sky before, not ES. I have ES (German, £80 HD satellite kit) and hadn't seen it before.

One of the really rubbish things about pay TV in this country is there's basically only Sky doing it broadcast and they only let you use their receivers. This makes it difficult for other providers to enter the market, compared with a market where people use standard receivers where you put your subscription card into a Common Access Module and slot that into the receiver. There are receivers which take two or more modules, making it easier to mix subscriptions.

I doubt Discovery alone is enough to open up the market and take on Sky, though, plus I think their channels were carried on Sky's multiplexes, so they would have to rearrange broadcast, plus persuade people to buy new receivers (already available in stores like Maplin, B&Q, sometimes Lidl and so on) alongside their sky ones, plus send out a load of modules and subscription cards... can't see it, sadly.

Also, some other countries seem to be copying Sky's suppression of competition and switching from modules to single-service receivers. Most recently France, I think. It would be nice to think that British fair play means that we could buck the trend, but I doubt it and anyway, neither Disco nor Sky are British.

Two things, quash the competition but mostly Sky now know they have overpaid for the Premier League, folk have been cord cutting in droves apparently. Price rise in the offing, BT have recently indicated the same, a price rise and have indirectly said overpaid for football.
I'm on VM but seriously thinking of dropping to basics.
Is Eurosport player any good?
I occasionally use MLB.TV and it's brilliant online...

I think the Help says you can, but there's no way to test before paying.

http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/used-hd-camping-and-caravanning-satellite-system-b44qu would definitely get you Eurosport 1 on the TV in German. I can't actually see any other cheap kits right now. Too deep in winter for them to be stocked in the UK, perhaps.

I dumped Eurosport, after sitting down, slippers on, cup of tea, to watch the cycling as billed, only to see <sport other than cycling*>, too many times.

*tennis, golf, swimming..................
Yes, they're devils for that other than the grand tours. That's part of why I like being able to record it and a bit either side, then skip forwards/backwards to find the start. Can't record Eurosport Player easily and the 3 hour rewind isn't much good for watching mid-afternoon coverage when one sits down to TV after dinner.

Most of Eurosport's cycling coverage is available later in the Eurosport Player's 'Videos' section. (It seems a bit weird to me to stream coverage which is not necessarily live so I don't know why they insist on simulating broadcast TV - why don't they just offer everything as videos to be watched when you like?)

From time to time they seem to forget to put up a video. I remember missing one or 2 Grand Tour stages which I couldn't find later. Generally though, you can watch video replays for at least a week or two after the event.

My Samsung smart TV used to have its own Eurosport Player app but that has been shut down now. As for Chromecast, I'll just see if I can chuck coverage from my phone over to the TV ... Well, I can certainly do it using 'Screen Mirroring' but I am not sure whether that is because I have a Samsung phone. I'll try it from my non-Samsung laptop ... Yes, that works too. I couldn't 'cast' from the Chrome browser but right-clicking the Windows 10 desktop gave me a wireless display option; I selected my Samsung TV and it connected.

The picture seems to have been downgraded to 720p. I think that there was a full-HD option at one time. Still, it isn't bad.

BT have also found a £500m hole in their accounts due to some "issues" in Italy, I suspect this is one way they intend to recoup some money.
Yeah, just like marriage,eh?
720p, is okay I suppose.
I think with all the snooker (yawn), darts they are now pushing, the player or finding access to foreign Eurosport feeds may be required..

Barnet,
I only got Sky in the first place for Eurosport. This gives me another reason to get rid of it.
