Waking a PC up from sleep is considerably quicker than starting from scratch. No point in sleep mode in Windows 10 really.
Unless you boot to safe mode, you can't fully shut down Win10 without pulling the plug. By default it runs in it's Hybrid boot option.
When you shut down it saves critical parts of your session into memory. So that when you reboot it comes in considerably faster.
So unless you want to keep windows open, shut down is very similar to "hibernate".

Like I say, the first time I ever used the sleep key was on reading this thread. I've never hit it by mistake (It is well out of the way of the main keyboard) and there was no annoyance involved.Windows 10 isn't really starting from scratch though. Unless you pull the power plug, or restart into safe mode, and shut down from there.
Is the 15 or 20 seconds or so saved worth the annoyance of a sleep key?
