I love the idea that it packs to the size of a rugby ball... but the price is making me think "how many nights is that in a Travelodge?"![]()
I wouldn't worry about cost - I've been cold in a Travelodge and warmer when I have camped. I bought my big heavyweight sleeping bag 16 years ago brand new for £400 then - now it is closer to £600 for the equivalent. (My husband's was only £50 second hand some 20 years ago) both are still fantastic sleeping bags (I'll happily camp in it down to -20C or more (which we have)).
now lets see - even if I only use that sleeping bag for 2 weeks every year (some years it has been much, much more), 14 * 16 = 224, thats £1.79 a night - and I have slept much better than in a travelodge! more to the point, it gets cheaper every year. And I know for a fact that the times I have woken to find ice on the outside of the sleeping bag and the inside of the tent with warm toes and snug as a bug, I know that I would not have been warmer in any motel.
That said, I am storing ours for our trip and getting slightly less warm bags that we can use and if really needed families can ship the serious heavy weights to us. Just hope Ireland and Scotland in March don't go below -10C, that's usually February's trick!
