Forgive my ignorance but I was unaware that there was varying quality of rim tape. What do I need to know (new to cycling)When I first started to ride to work I had numerous punctures and thought that the slim inner tubes would be the answer, I went through about 5 of these before I realised I was wasting my time and money, all they really do is cover your bike in green slime, I think the pressure is to high for them to work efficiently (On a road bike)!
Your better off upgrading your tyre and rim tape, I'm using Continental Gator Skins with Velo rim tape and haven't had a puncture for over 3000miles!! will save you money in the long run.
When I finally moved away from the slime inner tubes, I installed a pair of Continental Gator Skins to stop road based punctures (Nails, glass etc) but found myself with a new problem, I now kept getting "pinch punctures", this was due to the poor rim band that came with the bike (it goes around the wheel and covers the spoke holes mine was a blue elasticated band) every time I put a bit of effort going up a hill the rim band moved and my inner tube would get caught in-between the band and the spoke hole causing a pinch puncture(once got 5 in one week).Forgive my ignorance but I was unaware that there was varying quality of rim tape. What is rim tape?
